Phone scam claiming to be Greeneville police

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - The Greeneville Police Department is warning residents after receiving complaints of a phone scam.

The department says there have been reports of someone claiming to be Detective White when calling victims. The suspect has tried to extort money.

The Greeneville Police Department says it is not making the calls even though that is what the caller ID will display.

The department says if residents receive a similar call to hang up
