HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Harlan County has had two new blessing boxes go up in the last month. Those who have built the boxes say there has been a need for them for a long time in the county.

“We really felt the need to start building them when we saw messages or people were posting on Facebook,”
said Leslie Bledsoe.

Bledsoe started #withlovefromharlan, a non-profit organization. She along with others built the first two boxes in hopes of supplying meals for kids who need them.

“Some of the kids may not be getting fed as well as they should,”
said Bledsoe. “So we decided to go ahead and start building the boxes.”

There are currently two up, one in the Evarts community, and one in the Sunshine area. Bledsoe says they have plans for many more.

“We'll have ten up by the time kids come out for summer,”
said Bledsoe.

Bledsoe wants those in the community to know that the food is for anyone in need and if you have food to spare, to leave some in one of the boxes.

“Put anything in that you want or take anything out that you need,”
said Bledsoe.
