Powell motorcycle ministry gives back through special ride

POWELL, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Saturday marked year 12 of a benefit ride hosted by First Baptist Church of Powell and Fountain City's Motorcycle Ministry.

The ride began and ended at the Powell church.

"We don't just ride motorcycles, we do a lot of things people don't see,"

motorcyclist Hal Bernard said.

Hal Bernard is a part of both the church and motorcycle ministry. He grew up in Kingsport riding motorcycles.

"I just love the freedom of it, and being out in the wind and the smells,"

Bernard said.

It's not just about sharing a love for motorcycles, it's about giving back. Riders like Bernard came out for the ride, which collects donations for children.

"It just allows our motorcycle ministry and our local riders to come and raise money for our mobile home parks, and that's for the youth and children of the mobile home parks,"

said Debbie Garrett, a congregant who participates in the ministry.

Those donations will go towards school supplies and Christmas gifts for children who would otherwise be without.

"They're just what we use to draw attention to the Lord and help kids,"

Bernard said.

"We get a blessing from it and helping kids, you can't go wrong."

The ride raised over $3,100 for the mobile home parks. The motorcycle ministry's next benefit will be July 13, 2019.
