Ober Gatlinburg closes slopes for the season

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Ober Gatlinburg announced that the ski and snowboard slopes are closed for the 2017-2018 season.

Ober said the closures are due to the recent rain and future forecast.

"We have had a wonderful season that came on earlier than usual (Dec. 9) and allowed us to be 100% open for all of January and into February!"

said Ober Gatlinburg spokeswoman Kate Barido.

Ober went on to thank the community for their support.

"WE THANK YOU for all your support through this season, as we have had the best snow conditions for much of December and January in a long time. We are already counting down to next season,”

Barido continued.

Though the slopes are now closed, Ober said with their snow magic technology, snow tubing will remain open through April 1.
