No charges filed in Chapman Highway hit-and-run that killed toddler

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WVLT) -- No charges were filed in connection to a hit-and-run on Chapman Highway that killed a 13-month-old little girl, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The Sevier County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to reports of a child hit by a vehicle at 10:05 a.m. on September 20, 2017. According to reports, a red Pontiac Vibe driven by Charles Evans, 74, was traveling northbound near the area of 12806 Chapman Highway when the child was struck. THP said the vehicle immediately left the scene.

The toddler was transported to UT Medical Center by responders after the hit-and-run. Investigators announced that she passed away.

A representative with THP confirmed that Evans will not face charges in connection to the deadly crash.
