HENNING Last Saturday, the Women’s Therapeutic Residential Center (WTRC) welcomed around 40 residents’ family members to celebrate the Christmas holiday. The annual party was hosted by the God Behind Bars organization and Life Fellowship Church out of Desoto County, Mississippi.

Some of the activities enjoyed throughout the day included cookie decorating, face painting, inflatables, a morning and lunchtime meal, stocking surprises, games, a Christmas movie, gifts, and a photo booth where the families could take a photo with the resident they were visiting to take home.

According to Turner Smith, Mission Director at Life Fellowship Church, this is the third year for the church to host the Christmas party.

“We reorganized the event to include some new things this year, such as the photo booth,”
said Smith.
“We plan to do this every year. We are grateful the state allows us to come in and throw the party, and it’s always so exciting to bring families together through this event.”

Alma Harris, WTRC Chaplain, said God Behind Bars is a great volunteer group.

“The ladies at WTRC look forward to this event every year. It keeps getting better, and the families really enjoy themselves while they are here visiting. Family reunification is incredibly important for the rehabilitation of our residents, and events like this are part of the reunification process.”
