KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - The Helen Ross McNabb Center will be opening its third Veterans Housing complex and will celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 29 with speakers that will include Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs and others.

The new 10-unit complex is located along Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville and was implemented by the Center thanks to Knox County, City of Knoxville and Tennessee Housing Development agency funds, as well as private philanthropy.

The permanent, supportive housing will provide homes for 10 military veterans who are homeless or at risk for becoming homeless. The tenants are eligible to receive housing vouchers through the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 2016 survey, there are over 470,000 veterans living in Tennessee. Over 40 percent of them are age 65 or older.

Ribbon-cutting celebrations and ceremony take place Monday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the new housing location, 3720 Middlebrook Pike.

Speakers will include:

  • Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs
  • City of Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero
  • Helen Ross McNabb Center CEO and President Jerry Vagnier
