Cumberland County Playhouse Presents “Don’t Dress For Dinner”

CROSSVILLE, TN – The uproarious, high-energy comedy, “Don’t Dress for Dinner” will open 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 and run through Oct. 3 at the Cumberland County Playhouse.

Adapted by Robin Hawdon from the play by Marc Camoletti, the show ran for over six years in London’s West End, and since then it has played constantly and delighted audiences.

In “Don’t Dress for Dinner,” Bernard is planning a romantic weekend at his charming farmhouse with his mistress, a stunning model named Suzanne, while his wife, Jacqueline, is away visiting her mother. He has arranged for a cordon bleu chef named Suzette to prepare gourmet delights and has invited his best friend, Robert, along to provide an alibi for his extramarital shenanigans. It’s foolproof; what could possibly go wrong?

Robert and Jacqueline are having a dalliance of their own, and when she discovers Robert has been invited for the weekend, Jacqueline decides to stay. Robert makes matters worse when he mistakes the chef for the mistress. Soon, the mistress arrives and has to pretend to be the chef, regardless of the fact she can’t cook. And just when you think things couldn’t possibly get any more confusing, the chef’s jealous husband arrives. Soon, everyone at the farmhouse is feverishly muddling through an evening of mistaken identities, lusty hijinks, and inspired lunacy all at breakneck speed.

“Don’t Dress for Dinner” is a hilarious celebration of love, laughter, and human frailty.
