KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Bikers hit the highway over the weekend not just to soak in the freedom of the open road, but for a good cause.

It was all part of Knox County Mayor-Elect Glenn Jacobs' second annual Ride for Kids.

The event was held Sunday morning at Knoxville Harley-Davidson on Clinton Highway.

The goal is to raise money for "one unforgettable night", an evening for chronically ill patients at East Tennessee Children's Hospital to dance the night away and have fun.

“All these bike riders that come to this, They're not coming to this for any other reason but to help the children"
, said event organizer Tom Bruno.
"It's impressive that these guys are supposedly the rough necks of the community but basically, they are sweethearts and doing this to make sure the kids have a better time."

Last year the ride raised more than $1200 for "One Unforgettable Night." This year's event will be in September on the Star of Knoxville Riverboat.
