Sixth Annual Ringing of the Bells for Constitution Week at Oak Hill School

JONESBOROUGH, TN – The State of Franklin Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host their Sixth Annual Bell Ringing in honor of Constitution Week 1:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Oak Hill School, located at 214 East Sabin Drive in Jonesborough.

The program will include history on the 18th and 21st Amendments to the Constitution. Several groups will be in attendance, including the Kings Mountain SAR, Watauga Chapter SAR, Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge, Sons of Union Veterans, Over-Mountain Victory Trail Association-National Park Service, United Daughters of 1812, and Crockett Family Reunion.

Attendees may bring chairs and bells that Sunday as America celebrates the Constitution.

The Daughters of the American Revolution began the tradition of celebrating the Constitution. In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to set aside Sept. 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was adopted by Congress and signed into law on Aug. 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The State of Franklin Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has been based in Jonesborough since 1929.
